Why the name "Seventh-day Adventist?"
We are familiar with the word "Advent" from Christmas time, where it describes the first coming of Jesus to our earth. The word simply means "coming" and has for hundreds of years also been used to describe those who believe in the soon Second Coming of Jesus in glory. In the mid 1800's some of those Adventists who came from many church groups discovered from the Bible that God has given us a blessing in the weekly day of rest called the Sabbath. This falls on the seventh day of the week according to Scripture. Thus the name "Seventh-day Adventist." Please read either the summary of our beliefs, or the fundamental beliefs for further explanation and Bible texts on these and other subjects.
